About Our Program
The Oasis Youth Care program offers the foundational stability of housing for homeless and vulnerable male youth, aged 18-24, in Ontario's Halton Region.
We focus on empowering young people with life skills training, life coaching, and mentoring to help them build self-efficacy and achieve their goals. The program provides 2 houses with 10 safe and supportive bed spaces, known as the Oasis Houses.

Our strength-based approach aims to foster positive life outcomes, including housing and job stability, connections to community supports, and the ability to set and achieve personal goals in a serene, family-like environment.
What Program Model Does the Oasis Houses Follow?

The Oasis Houses follows the Foyer Model, a proven approach to addressing youth homelessness. This model combines stable accommodation with an agreed commitment to education, training, and/or employment.

How is the Foyer Model Unique?

The Foyer Model uses accommodation as a tool to engage youth in their personal development. It provides:
-
A less institutionalized, family-like setting that promotes independence.
-
Opportunities for youth to function and regulate independently within a small group.
-
Extended periods of support, acknowledging that every young person’s transition to adulthood is unique and takes time.

Is the House Staffed 24/7?

While the program encourages independent living, support staff and frontline community workers are always available to provide assistance.

Who is Eligible for the Program?

Eligibility criteria include:
-
Male youth aged 18-24, particularly from Black and racialized communities.
-
Youth facing unstable housing conditions or at risk of homelessness.
-
A commitment to participate in education, job training, employment, or volunteering.
Is There a Participation Fee?

Yes, the program fee ranges from $390 to $500 per month, which can be paid by the youth or a referring community support agency.

What is the Intake Process?

Referrals can come from youth care agencies, community groups, caregivers, mentors, or youth themselves. To refer a youth, complete the Referral Form available on the top of this page.

Once an application is submitted:
-
The intake committee reviews the referral to confirm eligibility.
-
An intake interview is scheduled within 10 business days of receiving the application.
-
During the interview, expectations and program guidelines are discussed, and the youth’s willingness to participate is confirmed.
-
A decision is communicated within 3 business days of the intake interview.

How Long Can Youth Stay in the Program?

Youth are required to stay for a minimum of 6 months to engage in life coaching, life skills training, and employment readiness programs. However, recognizing that every individual’s journey to independence is different, the program supports youth for up to 2 years.
