For the past five years, Oasis Youth Care has walked alongside young men experiencing housing instability, homelessness, and family breakdown during one of the most vulnerable transitions in life: the journey into adulthood.
Through safe housing, mentorship, practical support, and meaningful relationships, Oasis has helped young people move toward stability and independence. Yet throughout this work, one important question continued to emerge:
What happens after housing?
While stable housing, food security, and wrap-around support provides an essential foundation, true independence requires more than meeting immediate needs. Many young people leaving supportive environments continue to face barriers related to employment, education, social connection, life skills, and community belonging. Without ongoing support, there is a risk that young adults may experience setbacks or return to crisis.
Nearly Two years ago, this challenge inspired a new vision.
Recognizing that young people often need continued guidance even after securing stability, Executive director Grace and the Oasis team began imagining a dedicated space where youth could continue to access support, build relationships, and develop the skills necessary to thrive independently.
That vision has now become a reality through the opening of the Oasis Youth Resource Centre.
The Resource Centre was created to ensure that support does not end when a young person leaves housing or completes a program. Instead, it serves as an ongoing source of connection, encouragement, and practical assistance as youth continue their journey toward independence.
At the Oasis Youth Resource Centre, young adults ages 16 to 29 can access a wide range of supports designed to meet them where they are and help them move forward with confidence.
The Resource Centre provides:
One on One mentorship and guidance
Employment and education support
Life skills development programming
Wellness and personal development activities
Community and social connection opportunities
Access to technology and community resources
Navigation support for housing, mental health, and other essential services
Basic supports such as snacks, self-care items, notebooks, and transportation assistance when barriers exist
More Importantly, the Resource Centre offers something that cannot always be measured: a consistent and welcoming community.
Many young people aging out of care or transitioning from difficult circumstances lack reliable adult relationships and supportive networks. The Resource Centre creates a space where youth can ask questions, seek advice, develop healthy relationships, and receive encouragement from mentors and peers who genuinely care about their success.
The goal is not simply to help young people avoid crises. The goal is to equip them to thrive.
By combining mentorship, practical support, life skills programming, and community connections, the Oasis Youth Resource Centre helps young adults build the confidence, resilience, and skills needed to move forward without stepping backward.
This new chapter represents an important expansion of the Oasis mission.
Housing remains foundational. However, lasting independence requires ongoing support, meaningful relationships, and opportunities for growth. The Resource Centre extends the Oasis model beyond housing, ensuring that young people continue to have access to guidance and community as they navigate adulthood.
At Oasis Youth care, we believe that every young person deserves more than stability alone. They deserve the opportunity to thrive.
The Oasis Youth Resource Centre exists to help make that possible.
