Our Impact in 5 years

Over the past five years, Oasis Youth Care has focused on one of the most fragile moments in a young person’s life. The transition into adulthood for young men aging out of care or unstable family systems is often marked by sudden loss of housing, guidance, and support. While this trajectory cannot always be prevented, it can be met with stability, relationship, and care. 

Across Halton Region, youth homelessness is not a marginal issue. Nearly half of the homeless population is under the age of 35, and a significant portion is under 25. These are young people standing at the threshold of adulthood, facing instability at the very moment when stability matters most.  

Oasis exists to reach young men in this transition and to walk alongside as many as possible, offering a stable foundation during a critical period of change. 

Over five years, Oasis has responded to referrals from across the region, working with young men for whom transitional housing combined with intensive support could meaningfully shift outcomes. While capacity has been intentionally limited to ensure depth of care, the impact has been substantial. 

Among young men who completed the Oasis program, nearly 80% successfully transitioned into independent living. Others required deeper or longer-term support, reinforcing an essential truth in this work. Progress is not linear, and some young people need more time and continuity than short-term solutions can provide.  

What makes these outcomes possible is the Oasis Youth Care model itself. 

Housing at Oasis is not an endpoint. It is the foundation. Each resident is supported through an integrated model built on five interconnected pillars: personal wellbeing, economic productivity, faith and values, social connection, and community engagement. This holistic approach ensures that young men are not simply housed, but supported as whole people preparing for adult life.  

The value of this approach is evident not only in human outcomes, but in economic responsibility. The cost of crisis intervention far exceeds the cost of prevention. A single day in a mental health hospital can exceed $1,100. Youth detention costs approximately $360 per day. Emergency shelter placements average $115 per night. By comparison, providing stable housing and wrap-around support through Oasis costs approximately $85 per day.  

Stability is not only more humane. It is more effective and more responsible. 

1. Why the Francis Road Opportunity Matters 

While the Oasis model has proven effective, its impact has been constrained by one critical limitation: the risk of impermanence inherent in rental-based housing. 

Operating in temporary housing environments exposes programs and young people alike to disruption. Rising rental costs, potential displacement, and uncertainty limit the ability to plan long term and deepen support. For young men rebuilding their lives, instability at the housing level can undo progress and reintroduce crisis at precisely the wrong moment.  

2. The Francis Road opportunity represents a turning point. 

By securing a permanent fifteen-bed home, Oasis can anchor its proven model in a space designed specifically for healing, growth, and independence. A permanent home allows Oasis to expand capacity responsibly, strengthen programming, and ensure continuity of care without the ongoing risk of displacement.

This shift from temporary solutions to permanent infrastructure transforms how impact is delivered. It allows Oasis to serve more young men over time, respond flexibly to those who need longer-term support, and build organizational stability that benefits future generations.

Over the past five years, Oasis Youth Care has demonstrated that when stability comes first, outcomes change. Young men do not simply survive the transition into adulthood. They heal, grow, and move toward lives marked by purpose, contribution, and independence.
